Okay so you're out and about looking for that perfect internship.  You have what you are looking for exactly in mind and well, you really don't want to be disappointed.  You arrive at various interviews and realise that these large "Fortune 500" companies that you are applying with are going to stick you in a small cubicle and ask you to make copies and coffee all day.  This isn't what you really had in mind...hoping for more hands on experience to lead you in the right direction for that perfect job.

Don't fret...there is always an answer. In this case, I say go for the little people.  When looking for a great internship, you don't want to  say "never" to the smaller companies, the people are who are still new in the business world. If anything they need people like you with a fresh take on everything, a young mind with new ideas to differentiate between what is old and outdated and what is up and coming with the new generation and technology.  Take advantage of these companies as well.  They are the people who will let you did more hands on work then the larger companies, who generally hire interns to deal with the little things.

Never say never to an opportunity. It just may be the opportunity that sets you on the course to a successful career.  Every chance we get to improve ourselves and our self worth is a step in the right direction.  You want to select the internship that feels right to you, you want to feel comfortable. You don't want to feel like just another number on a list of many.  You will never been seen or heard and your ideas will never come out of the closet.

Keep these questions in mind when interviewing:

1. How attentive is the person hiring you? Do they ask a lot of questions about you and your ideas?
2. Did you interview with the actual boss, the person you will answer to?
3. Do they have a real plan for you? What will you be doing? (ASK)
4. Do you feel you will be happy doing the work they will provide? Is it something exciting to you?

Remember that you want to feel as comfortable as possible.  If you automatically feel the interviewer is too impersonal, then most likely you are just another number to meet their annual quota.
